Webcomic: The Adventures of Ellie Connelly

I've just added a new web comic to my list called The Adventures of Ellie Connelly, which is set in 1890 about a young Victorian era woman who is an expert on the paranormal.  It was started a few months ago so the archive isn't too long - you can start reading from the beginning at http://www.ellieconnelly.com/comics/

Online Comics, Part Deux

While catching up on one of the online comics I blogged about last week I discovered another comic called Questionable Content.

This comic is just as entertaining as the others although it's of a completely different genre. It's about a bunch of 20-something friends who are into "Indie Music" and hang out at a coffee shop one of them owns.  Most of the characters are also neurotic or crazy in one way or another. Ya, I know it sounds like some kind of Friends in comic form, but I think it's much more entertaining than "Friends" ever was, primarily because there actually is an overarching story arc which has some depth and complexity to it.  You also don't have to know or care anything about "Indie Music" (I don't) - I rarely haven't been able to get the joke on the occasions where it might be relevant.

Another cool thing is that the main character, Martin, has an "AnthroPC" called "Pintsize" which is sort of a robotic PDA with an AI personality that has a bizarre sense of humour and a prediliction for human porn.

The artwork starts off very simple but gradually becomes more realistic over time so bear with it. Also, be warned - there are 1111 strips as of today and it took me 5 days (while unemployed) to completely catch up - but it is so worth it.

(And no, despite the day on which this was published, this is NOT an April Fools day joke - I really do like QC!)

Online Comics

I've recently discovered a few "new to me" online comics that I highly recommend to anyone with tastes similar to mine (Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Gamer Grrrl and Ancient History Affictionado):

  • Weregeek
Mark is a relatively ordinary guy who is still coming to terms with his geekiness. First attracted to geekdom on the night of the "geek moon" he seems very straight-laced, but is inexplicably drawn to his newfound "geek" hobbies such as D&D, Shadow Run and a Vampire LARP.
  • Dungeons and Denizens
If you ever played and love the computer game "Dungeon Keeper" where you play the "Keeper" of dungeons of varying sizes, reponsible for keeping them filled with monsters, traps and defending them from Heroic Adventurers you'll love this comic. It follows the day to day activies of the schmoes who keep the local dungeon up and running.  (Oodles of D&D insider humour too.)
  • Wapsi Square
Unusual and sometimes maccabre, this story follows the life of Monica Villarreal - a young and skeptical museum anthropologist who releases an Aztec deity from an artifact and discovers that the world, and her own personal history, contain more than is dreamt of in her philosophy.
